Servicing and repairs for British and European classics, whether we restored the car or not. Original where it shows, reliable where it counts.
Every plan starts with an assessment. We look at the whole car and work out what it actually needs, which on a classic is a wider question than a modern service asks. Not just what is due, but what is wearing, and what it will take to keep it driving at its best.
From there, our team helps you understand what your car needs now and what you need to consider in the short to medium term. Some work is due, some is worth doing before it turns into a failure, and some can be part of your ongoing service plan. The value is in knowing what to prioritise.
Thorough, professional and exceptional attention to detail from start to finish. After some major renovation and upgrade work, my 1965 Series 2a drives better and feels a whole lot safer thanks to Trevor and the Toy Shop team. With their on going maintenance plan, I have no doubt my Land Rover will last another sixty years.

Oil and filter, and the rest of the fluids checked and changed on condition. Brake fluid tested for moisture. Coolant strength and hoses. Ignition, timing and carburettor balance where they apply, points and plugs where they are fitted. Grease points that modern cars no longer have.
Then the parts that quietly fail on a stored car: brake and clutch hydraulics, wheel bearings, suspension and steering, the exhaust, the charging system, and tyres assessed on age as well as tread.
Everything goes into the car’s record on our workshop app: what we found, what we did, what we replaced, and what the car will need next. Over time it builds into a service history with the photos and the notes behind it.
We arrange your warrant with an independent testing station while the car is with us, and carry out whatever work it calls for. You leave the car with us and collect it with the warrant done, rather than booking an inspection and then booking again to have the work sorted. From 1 November 2026 light vehicles first registered before 2000 move from a six-monthly warrant to an annual one, which brings most classics into line with the vintage and veteran change that came in the year before.
You don’t need a history with us to book a car in. Plenty of the vehicles we look after arrived here long after their original restoration, or are untouched classics.
If the car is new to you, start with a bumper-to-bumper assessment. It tells you what you have actually bought before you spend anything on it.
Recommissioning is its own job. A car that has been standing for a decade needs the fuel system, brakes and hydraulics gone through before it is safe to drive, and it is usually cheaper to do that properly once than to chase faults afterwards. We will tell you honestly whether the car is recommissioning or a restoration. Sometimes the job is to do less.
Every service, repair and inspection is documented in our workshop app through photos, notes and video as the work happens. You can see what was found and what was done, and the record stays with the car 鈥 which matters more on a classic than on anything else you own.
How often should a classic be serviced if it barely gets driven?
Once a year, regardless of distance. Oil picks up moisture and acids whether the car moves or not, and an annual service is the cheapest inspection you will ever buy.
Do you service cars you didn’t restore?
Yes, many of the vehicles we service and repair are exactly that.
Can you sort the warrant as well?
Yes. We arrange an independent inspection while the car is here and carry out any work that comes out of it.
My car has been off the road for years. Where do I start?
With an assessment. It is worth knowing what you are dealing with before deciding between recommissioning and restoration.
The car has developed a fault. Do I book a service or a repair?
Tell us what it is doing and we will start there. Fault-finding on any British or European car, classic or modern, sits under Diagnostics and Repairs.
Do you only work on classics?
We have serviced British and European cars of every age from our Te Atatu South workshop in Auckland for over forty years. Talk to us about your car and we’ll let you know if we can help.
